Riverview Hospital - Hillside

Thank you to Darrell for setting up such a great 'off site' meeting at Riverview Hospital - Hillside.
It was a wonderful meeting and so good to see Beata again.
The job that these dedicated staff have is endless and without the help of our Government and those who realize the problem, it will never be solved.

Hillside -

They deliver a 40-bed in-patient service at Riverview Hospital’s old Hillside and Brookside buildings with a rehabilitation and recovery program for people with both mental illness and substance use issues: medication, group therapy, one-on-one psychiatric care, and cognitive rehabilitation are all provided to patients who live in their own room for up to a year of treatment.

Ongoing addiction and mental health treatment and support

Recovery from mental illness and substance use is an ongoing journey. Often, our specialized programs are only one part of that experience. The Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health and Addiction and the Heartwood Centre for Women are for people with severe and complex mental health and substance use challenges. For some people who have completed their treatment in those programs, it’s helpful to “step down” into a less-intensive care program that offers ongoing support. This is helpful for patients or clients as they prepare to transition back into community-based care with their local health authority.

What to expect from the Rehabilitation & Recovery Program

You can expect a program tailored to your individual rehabilitation and recovery needs. Options include the following:

  • Ongoing mental health and substance use assessment and support
  • Crisis intervention (if you need it)
  • Coordinated psychiatric and medical treatment
  • Life and social skills building
  • Drug and alcohol recovery and counselling programs
  • Job skills training and education
  • Peer support
  • Advocacy
  • Coordination with other resources you may need, such as housing, social services and other programs

How long is the Rehabilitation & Recovery Program?

The time you spend in the Rehabilitation & Recovery Program will depend on your individual needs and progress. Most people finish the program within six to 12 months and transition to community services closer to home.

above copied from their website

This week is Addiction Recovery week and this is an art piece that the clients did.  There was a painting of a person in 'behind' the paint, with words that these people have been called....then they took water balloons filled with paint and threw them against the canvas to cover up all those horrible words and then they wrote their own caring, loving words on top.  The hearts in the middle of the larger heart are the thumb prints of the clients.

What an impact !!!!!!  Very Moving.

We had such a great turnout for this meeting, 24 members,  that maybe we should consider supporting Hillside in some way?  Community Service ?

Rick Fisher has an endless supply of 'interesting' things and he is very 'generous' to give them away.

He 'gifted' Ian an 'ULTRAMAN' lamp which Ian obviously loved.

Thanks for the laughs Rick and Ian keep your Ultraman on your bedside table !!!
