Last week DG Jane Helten visited our club and delivered a poignant message. It was good to see Jane walking around pain-free. Thankfully, the weather held out and has been splendid. The crisp fall days with the beautiful colours in the trees are a sight to behold.  I pity the poor souls who are not living in Vancouver.

End Polio Now - The Rotary Foundation are trying to raise $200m by June 2012.  I believe, we are $6m short which equates to $5 per Rotarian. India has reported only one case of polio so far in 2011 and that was over 8 months ago.  India looks set to be the next polio-free country! Congratulations to all the hardworking professionals and volunteers that are making this dream come true. Please join this group http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_158711824183179 and you'll see the amazing efforts of Rotarians all over the continent.

Operation Red Nose is gearing up and getting ready for what they expect to be a much bigger year than last year.  If you haven't volunteered for this project before, please consider it because it is a great initiative.  You lose a little sleep but think of all the lives you are saving because unfortunately, if we don't drive these folk home and it is inconvenient to get home any other way, some of them will be driving themselves home. We know that is a reality but we can do something about it.  Please get in touch with Malcolm Kennedy.  The dates are: Nov 25, 26 and Dec 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17 and New Year's Eve.

Please note that Coquitlam Sunrise will host their "Rotary's Amazing Race" on June 16, 2012. www.rotarysamazingrace.com will soon have all the particulars.

Also, the Rotary Club of Coquitlam will be holding their Caledonia night on February 3, 2012.

I'd like to make a special mention of the work being done by the Community Service committee.  They did a needs assessment by talking to people in the community and are busy going through the wish list to see which projects will deliver the most value to the community. They are also looking at it from a multi-year point of view to create projects that have continuity and fit in well with our goals and objectives from the Visioning initiative. Good job!

Remember, many hands make light work.
