Malibu Rotary Club will hold its annual Malibu Middle and High School Singing Competition Tuesday, January 28, at 7:00 p.m. at the Malibu High School Auditorium, 30215 Morning View Dr, in Malibu. Students from Krysta Sorensen's vocal classes at Malibu Middle School and Malibu High School have auditioned to compete for prize money at this special concert program at Malibu High School.   . Cash awards of $250, $150, and $100 are given  to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place  finishers in both the Malibu middle school division and the high school division.
 
Winner of the Malibu Rotary Club High School Singing Competiotion will be sponsored by the Malibu Rotary Club to compete in the Rotary District 5280 Pageant of the Arts, March 14, 2020 at Layola Marymount University, where he or she will compete for $1000 first prize money.     The 2016 entry from the Malibu Rotary  Club Maggie Renee Valdman won the second place district prize of $500.00 at the District event and will be graduating from Julliard School in New York this year. 
 
Accompanying students on piano will be Joellen "ChaCha" McNaughton.  Geoff Ortiz is chair of this year's Malibu Rotary Club event.
 
Five distinguished judges  will score student performances this year:

Lenny Goldsmith – past front man of Tower of Power, and professional singer and current front man of “The New Old”.  Lenny’s son, Taylor Goldsmith, was a winner of the RCM Music Competition several years ago, and has gone on to become a professional recording artist, and current front man of Dawes.

Julia Holland – Singer, Actor, Director and current owner of Julia Holland Vocal Studios, and manager of the Malibu Glee Club.  Julia has directed several musicals at the Malibu Playhouse, that have included Victor Victoria and the Wild Party, and is the Director of Eco-Hero Kids

Rick Johnson – was the Artistic Director of Malibu Playhouse for over 10 years, and oversaw, directed and produced many plays and musicals while there.  Rick is also a professional actor, and singer, and has appeared in several movies, tv roles, and commercials.

Cantor Marcelo Gindllin--the son of  a professional opera singer, he is the Canor of the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue and has two degrees in music therapy and has extensive experience as a teacher, composer, choir director, and performer. The Cantor has published several scholarly papers in the field of music therapy, and has presented at international conferences and seminars.

Dan Redfeld- Award-winning American composer, conductor, orchestrator, pianist and producer who has had his music and arrangements performed from the concert hall to the musical theater stage to the recording studio. He received his training at Boston" New England Concervatory before transferring to UCLA where graduated with a degree  in composition with an empasis in conducting. As a music director, conductor and pianist, Mr Redfeld has worked on forty-plus musicals including Disney;s Beauty & the Beast , The who's tommy, chess-the London vesrsion, My Fair Lady, Disneys Hunchback of Nortre Dame, Perer Pan, Addams Famil, Jesus Christ supersar, Sweeny Todd, Evita, Miss Saigon, Westside Story, et al. Redfeld has been the donctor of Los Angeles Opera's Secondary In -School-Opera since 2003.. 

The public is invited.  Admission is free, but donations to the Malibu Rotary Club are welcomed.
