Our first golf outing was a lot of fun. Here is our second golf outing for you to get to know your fellow Rotarians better! We run a best ball format, and player teams are set by the committee so we have a mix of skills on each team. Pay your own green fees for 18 holes and either walk or ride. Rental clubs are available. Bring $1's if you want an extra edge on the green. We allow you to use as many $1 bills (US) as needed for a Gimmee. Each player matches the total needed for each hole they use the option. All proceeds go to our Youth Exchange program. We reserved five tee times starting at 2:20 pm. Currently a 10% chance of rain for next Thursday. Reserve your spots by Tuesday at 5 pm. We release all unused tee times on Wednesday to avoid cancelation charges. Come enjoy our last few weeks of summer and make new Rotary friendships. Bring a prospective member and introduce them to Rotary!

Adam Rose-Levy will be speaking about his experience filming for No Barriers Warriors, a non-profit program that empowers veterans with disabilities to break through barriers, find their inner purpose and contribute their very best to the world. Adam recently filmed a documentary of the No Barriers Warriors capstone program, in which a group of veterans set out to climb Gannett Peak, a 13,800 ft. peak on September 11. Adam will share video footage of the expedition and talk about what he learned while accompanying veterans on this transformative journey. A second generation Alaskan, Adam recently graduated from Chapman University in May. He currently works as a freelance photographer and filmmaker. |

CO-Hosted by Alaska World Affairs Council - Arctic Executive Steering Committee – One Year On: Report from the Executive Director featuring Ambassador Mark Brzezinski Former United States Ambassador to Sweden Mark Brzezinski serves as Executive Director of the U.S. Government’s Arctic Executive Steering Committee. On January 21st, 2015, in recognition of the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the Arctic, President Obama issued an Executive Order to enhance coordination of national efforts in the Arctic. The Executive Order creates expanded opportunities for Alaskans and those in the Federal government to work on Arctic issues and establishes a clear structure to improve the coordination of Federal Arctic activity. An Arctic Executive Steering Committee (AESC) was established to oversee implementation of the National Strategy for the Arctic Region (https://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2015/03/27/white-house-releases-implementation-report-national-strategy-arctic). The AESC convenes at the Deputy Secretary level to guide the development of department and agency plans to assure that Federal activity is well-coordinated and better communicated to partners such as the State of Alaska, Alaska Native communities, the U.S. Congress, the business community, international partners, and other stakeholders. Mark made the Arctic a central focus of his tenure in Sweden. Speaking in February 2015 at Dartmouth College where he gave the Montgomery Fellowship lecture on the Arctic, Mark noted that “the Arctic is simultaneously a strategic problem and a human problem.” At the U.S. Embassy, he developed new partnerships with government and diplomats, business, media and entertainment, and the environmental and NGO community to consider the link between what is happening in the Arctic and what is happening in the rest of the world. He used new communications and social-media tools to share how the looming crisis confronting the Arctic is a tangible preview of the crisis confronting the world as a whole. Mark initiated and helped develop the new U.S. Fulbright Scholarship devoted to the study of the future of the Arctic. The new Arctic Fulbright, funded by the State Department, is a unique two-year program composed of researchers selected from the eight Arctic Council countries. Mark served on the National Security Council staff under President Clinton between 1999-2001, first as Director for Russia and Eurasia, then as Director for the Balkans. He received his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College, his law degree at the University of Virginia Law School and has Doctorate in political science from Oxford University. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Warsaw, Poland between 1991-1993. He was a partner at a Washington, DC law firm before joining the Obama Administration, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. |

Alaska’s Future is a a statewide coalition of Alaskans joined together to promote a solution to the budget deficit that threatens Alaska’s future. The believe that every conceivable solution to Alaska’s budget deficit requires using Permanent Fund earnings to support essential public services. Their mission is to cultivate the broad based public support necessary to convince the Legislature during the 2016 legislative session to use Permanent Fund earnings to significantly reduce the deficit, support essential public services and maintain a sustainable dividend and a healthy Permanent Fund as the the first step toward a stable economic foundation for Alaska. Aaron Schutt, CEO Doyon Limited will present some of the Rasmuson Foundation's Public Opinion findings on Alaska's Fiscal situation. |

The judges will be Chef Jack Amon, Karen King (a winner from last year's contest) and Mike Hurst! Chili Cook-Off Judging Guidelines Fine chili should look good, smell good and taste good! Traditional Pepper Chili is defined as any kind of meat or combination of meats, cooked with chili peppers, spices and other ingredients, with the exception of beans and pasta, which is strictly forbidden. Soup Chili is defined as any kind of meat or combination of meats, cooked with spices and other ingredients, including beans, pasta, and fillers. Accordingly, each cup of chili is to be judged on five (5) criteria, as established by the Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI), to arrive at one whole number.). You will rate the chili on a scale from zero to 10 for each of the five (5) categories: a) Color - Chili should look appetizing, reddish brown is generally accepted as good. b) Aroma - Chili should smell good. This also indicates what is in store when you taste it. c) Consistency - Chili must have a good ratio between sauce and meat. It should not be dry, watery, grainy, lumpy, or greasy. d) Taste - Taste, above all else is the most important factor. The taste should consist of the combination of the meat, spices, etc. with no particular ingredient being dominant. e) Aftertaste - The aftertaste or bite is the heat created by the various types of spices and or peppers.
