Debbie Weems Classification Talk

Wow, Debbie Weems has had a variety of career paths in her life!
Her natural curiosity led her to try many different things.
Currently Debbie is Vice President of Product Development and Design for a company that specializes in healthcare. Also she is the COO of Multi-state hospitality company. They have bourbon, a couple of bed and breakfasts, and some Social Houses. In addition, she is managing Director of Highland Advisors and Highland Mediation. And, if that’s not enough, she is a Senior Advisor to a telehealth and provider quality company.
So mostly she has worked in healthcare, with some technology sprinkled in.
What she really likes doing is taking things from an idea to execution. The messiness of accomplishing this doesn't bother her! If you have an idea and you need to have an event, start a company, or you need to resolve a conflict, she and one of her companies can help you!

A native of Odessa Texas, Larry married, a gal from Austria. They began to do missionary work together many years ago.
Larry believes that "What we do in life echoes in eternity."
He follows the words of Psalm 27:10:
For had my father and my mother forsaken me, then had Jehovah taken me up.

Arch Klumph circa 1916

The Rotary Foundation was begun over 100 years ago in 1917 when Arch Klumph, from the Cleveland Club, had an idea to create an Endowment fund dedicated to “Doing Good in the World.”  Through our Foundation, Rotary members have supported thousands of projects to provide clean water, fight disease, promote peace, provide basic education, and grow local economies. We’ve also been a leader in the fight to eradicate polio worldwide. The infrastructure developed worldwide to fight polio, has also helped in the worldwide fights to eliminate other dangerous endemics such as SARS, Ebola, and now Covid.

Libraries of Love

Trudy Marshall, the Executive Director of Libraries Of Love is just back from her recent, annual 6-month stint in Africa and presented her latest adventures to us in her annual update to Marble Falls Daybreak Rotary on Tuesday morning, Sept 21st.

After visiting Africa in 2004, and taking a few books with her to read, she was amazed when the African people she encountered were so taken with her books! She learned that people in Africa did not have Libraries and therefore did not have the access to books that we in America take for granted. Trudy decided to do something about that and Libraries of Love was formed!
You can also view her presentation on the Daybreak YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/Gp4hXDNH3GM

Burnet Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center recently welcomed Allison McKee as Executive Director. McKee comes to the Chamber from Georgetown Chamber of Commerce. Hatch grew up in Llano, Texas and was instrumental in ensuring that rural Texans continued to have access to affordable and quality healthcare through his efforts to keep the Llano hospital from closing its doors.

A passion lived out

The story starts with a young mother who works through several jobs only to find herself well into her 30's and wondering how to make a difference with her life. Not afraid of tough jobs, she had been a Child Protective Services investigator and then a conservatorship caseworker for CPS. In that position her job was to find a "forever home" for child victims of abuse and neglect.

Then what to do with her life? A mentor had posited to her "where do you see yourself in five years?"

Christopher spent almost 16 years in prison, falsely accused and convicted of capital murder at the age of 27, leaving his two sons, Christopher (6 years old) and Dameon (5 years old) to be raised without their father. He was finally released from prison, and exonerated, in 2009, which was the first non-DNA exoneration case in the United States. - See more here.

Posted by Gil Jones on Jan 27, 2013

The following was received from Daybreak Rotarian Brooks, who received it from Trudy Marshall whom we support in her Ugandan/Kenyan Libraries of Love mission.

Daybreakers,

Trudy is leaving on Wednesday for Kenya on a special mission trip.  This is new and separate from the Libraries of Love.  Once again Trudy has headed the call of the Lord and is off to do His will.

Below I have included a copy of her email regarding this trip.

We all need to keep her in our prayers.

The 4-way Test: It's history & meaning

Posted by Gil Jones
From the earliest days of the organization, Rotarians were concerned with promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives. One of the world's most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is The 4-Way Test, which was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor (who later served as RI president) when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy.
