On Monday, March 18th 24 Club members attended a Strategic Planning Meeting for 2013-2014 Rotary Year facilitated by President Mark Tauber and President-Elect Bill Kmiecik. The event was held at Village Hall from 6:00-8:15pm.

President Elect Bill Kmiecik started the session with a power point overview of the difference between the Club funds and Foundation funds. He helped educate those present that the money the Club disburses for International projects, Community needs, Vocational projects and New Generations comes from the Foundation. The Club budget is for the operation of the Club, and other expenses associated with being a part of Rotary International and District 6440. He provided a history of the Foundation budget and the importance of planning and budgeting for the coming year.

President Mark Tauber then facilitated the group planning process. Attendees were randomly put into groups and asked to brainstorm what kinds of projects and activities they would like to see funded. Groups were asked to focus just on one of the categories (International, Community, Vocational, or New Generations) and then after a 15 minute period each group was given a different focus until all of the groups had generated ideas for each of the four categories. Following a short break, the entire group listed rather extensive criteria to be used by each committee when planning their budgets for next year.

Finally all attendees were randomly selected to go to a specific category and “test out” which of the ideas listed met the criteria generated.

Committee chairs for the upcoming year are: Mike Cassady, New Generations; Dominic Gualtieri, Community Service; Don Marquis, Vocational, and Glen Garlick, International. Each committee chair was sent an excel spreadsheet of the criteria. Now they are to take their committees through the process of fine tuning ideas based on the criteria to select their focus for the coming year.

President-Elect Bill and Treasurer-Elect Jim Thomson will be engaging committee chairs in a process develop the 2013-24 club programs and associated budget can be presented to the Club at its June 13th meeting.  Watch the Big Wheel and check the website for up-to-date information on this activity.
