The speaker at our July 10 lunch meeting was Jeff Ney, Vice President of Corporate Sales for the of the Schaumburg Boomers baseball team. Jeff joined the Boomers in September 2011 after serving as assistant general manager for the Kane County Cougars for 18 years.  The Boomers are committed to creating a fun, family friendly, affordable experience for every customer, because they recognize that many customers leave the park not even knowing if the Boomers won the game.  The Boomers play in the Frontier League, which has an age limit of 27 years old for all players. The players typically make approximately $1000 per month, and hold down other jobs.  The team also provides players with housing and meal support.

The Boomers won the Frontier League championship in 2013.  The Frontier League is a 14 team league based primarily in the Midwest.  Teams in the Frontier League are independent, and not affiliated with any Major League Baseball team.  The Boomers are owned by local businessman Pat Salvi, and have increased average attendance in each year of existence from 2500 (2012), 3000 (2013) to 3300 (2014).

Some of the fun events at Boomers games include fireworks displays after all Friday and Saturday home games, post-game autographs from players, and the ability for fans of all ages to run the bases after the game.  The Bombers also have many theme nights, including a Star Wars Night, Backwards Night, and Bark In The Park (bring your dog) Night. The team also has bands playing throughout the season after games, and this year is having its third annual Squirt Gun Fight Night.  The Boomers also have a marshmallow fight night, and giveaway nights that include hats, tumblers and, yes, bacon.  For more information, contact Jeff Ney (jney@boomersbasebal.com) or visit www.boomersbaseball.com.
