At our February 19, 2015 lunch meeting, Ron and Diane Crawford spoke about the work that has been done by our club, and other Rotary clubs, at the Ak Tenamit school in Guatemala over the past several years.  Several of our Rotary club members have made the service trip over the past several years, and everyone is encouraged to consider going in the future.  The cost is approximately $1700 per person.

The Ak Tenamit school has about 500 students at two campuses, one for boys and one for girls.  Because of the extreme poverty in the area, it is a privilege to be able to attend the school. There are three restaurants on the school site, and much of the training at the school is focused on restaurant services.

Our club's work at Ak Tenamit over the past several years has included construction of dormitories, bunk beds, a library, bungalows, and a gathering deck and computer lab for the girls.  Our club members also deliver water filters to the school on an annual basis.  Diane Crawford also described an effort over the past several years related to improvements in agriculture and farming, sanitation, and dental services. The primary goal of the Ak Tenamit school is to educate girls, and provide them with educational and occupational opportunities.  If anyone is interested in participating in the At Tenamit/Guatemala service trip, please contact Ron Crawford.
