The Santa Cruz Education Foundation's Eddy Awards provide an opportunity for the community to recognize the outstanding commitment made daily by the dedicated educators, staff and volunteers of Santa Cruz City Schools.

This year the Rotary Club of Santa Cruz Sunrise was honored to be the recipient of the Community Supporter of the Year award.   The SCEF recognized Sunrise for it's many contributions to the Santa Cruz City Schools including the dedication of the new SCHS Track and Field, Arts in the Afternoon, Scholarships and Grants.

The following is from the award ceremony program notes:

As public funds and donation dollars dwindle, the contributions of individual Rotarians and the Rotary continue to have a tremendous positive impact on our schools.  In the past year alone, the Rotary Club of Santa Cruz Sunrise has undertaken the following projects: Santa Cruz High School Track & Field, middle school Arts in the Afternoon, Scholarships, Interact Service Clubs, Charities and Grants.  In addition to financial contributions of nearly $1 million, we honor the Rotary's legacy of service to our youth and schools.  Gratitude to: Ken Whiting and Jon Sisk - Track & Field project; Peggy Alberti and Bruce McGuire - Arts in the Afternoon; John Caldwell - Scholarships; Rod Caborn, Holly Borg - Interact; Roger Swenson - Charities and Grants.  "We feel very strongly that an investment in our schools is an investment in our community and its future leaders." - Jon Winston, Club President.
