Blue Star Recyclers
Bill Morris co-founded Blue Star Recyclers in 2009 to help solve two problems:
- More than 80% of people with autism and other disabilities were unemployed
- Less than 20% of unwanted electronics are ethically recycled
Blue Star Recyclers is an award-winning 501c3 social enterprise with a mission of recycling electronics to create local jobs for people with autism and other disabilities. The fulfillment of their mission to date has produced significant triple-bottom line results, including:
- 30 jobs for people with disabilities in Colorado
- 6.5 million pounds of electronics ethically recycled
- Over $3 million in earned income and $1.5 million in taxpayer savings
Bill has been named Recycler of the Year from the Colorado Association for Recycling, Employer of the Year from the Arc of the Pikes Peak Region, Small Business Person of the Year from the Colorado Springs Better Business Bureau. Most recently Blue Star Recyclers received the 24-Karat Award from the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program, and the Samaritan Institute Award from the Colorado Ethics in Business Alliance.
