The club’s board of directors met on Thursday, December 2, using the Zoom platform. The board meeting was delayed from the original November date, and the meeting planned for later in December has been cancelled.

Highlights include a healthy discussion of the meeting location, and the quality of the food provided by the Courtyard by Marriott staff. The club president is providing the feedback to the catering lead, and will wait until the next several meetings are held before collecting further feedback. The board members discussed the progress in improving the club's accessibility to current and new members through moving to a hybrid meeting format using Zoom and in-person meetings. Based on the responses from members to the recent survey, moving to a different meeting day or reducing the number of meetings each month (other than holidays or special circumstances) were not popular options.

The board approved continuation of the Great Puget Sound Duck Dash for the coming year, and approved formation of a committee to determine the future of the Duck Dash as the primary fund raising project. Essentially, there is not enough time to change course before the summer, especially because the racing duck provider is demanding a 2022 commitment immediately.

The treasurer’s report included an update on revenue and expense patterns, a discussion of meeting cost budget impact, and confirmation of the increase price for a Dinner Ticket (10 meals) as a result of the increased meal cost at the Courtyard.

The board approved a membership application for submission to the club's membership, approved the termination of a new member for lack of dues payment, approved the award of a special $1,000 Charles O. Morgan scholarship for a journalism student at Lake Washington High School (using held over, unspent scholarship funds from 2021), approved cancellation of one January meeting due to how the New Year's Day holiday falls, approved the purchase of new computer and audio equipment to support hybrid meetings using Zoom, approved a $500 donation to Attain Housing, and approved purchase of a one-year license for the SmarterSelect scholarship application software.

In addition, the board discussed the status of the community service and club service calendars of events, heard a report on the combination gift wrapping party and club holiday party, and a heard brief report on student of the month selection progress. The board meeting schedule is published in the club's Calendar, including an individual Zoom link for each meeting for those who want to attend virtually. Rotarians may view this month’s board meeting minutes and those of prior meetings on the Board Minutes page, which requires a log-in. A link also may be found at the bottom of the Spokesman.
