Program (Dr. Lee Stowell):
Richard Schwahn introduced our speaker today; Dr. Lee Stowell spoke about the Rotator Cuff and its tears.  Dr. Lee Stowell is an Orthopedic Surgery Specialist in Casper, Wyoming. He graduated with honors from University Of Virginia School Of Medicine in 2005. Having more than 11 years of diverse experiences, especially in ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY, Dr. Stowell affiliates with many hospitals including Wyoming Medical Center, Sagewest Health Care, and cooperates with other doctors and specialists in many medical groups including Center For Orthopedic Research And Education, Inc., Wyoming Health Medical Group, LLC.  He began by telling us that the shoulder was an important part of the body, providing stability, strength and range of motion.  He spoke about some of the problems that can happen to shoulders, such as, tendonitis, impingement, bursitis and rotator cuff tears, partial and full.  The rotator cuff consists of four different muscles, two on top, one in the rear and one in the front.  These muscles are the Supraspinatus, the Subscapularis, the Infraspinatus and the Teres Minor.  Dr. Stowell stated that there are two million people each year that see a doctor for shoulder issues.  Many people can get non-surgical treatment, such as, rehabilitation, however, one-third of these people need surgery.  He went on to say that it can be challenging to diagnose a rotator cuff injury.  They usually do so with ultrasound or mostly MRIs.  If left untreated, a significant amount of progression can be expected within three to eight years of injury. He concluded his talk by saying that not all repairs done on rotator cuff tears work, a high number of the repairs tear again.

Announcements:
1. Kevin Hawley ended the meeting on a high note saying that Travelocity published a story that listed the top 25 most generous communities in the U.S., per capita, and Casper, Wyoming was listed as Number one.

President Jim Ruble concluded the meeting at 1:28 and reminded us that next week we will be here again at the Parkway Plaza.
