Sac PD K-9 Get TogetherEast Sacramento Rotary Meets With Sac PD K-9 Unit East Sacramento Rotary had a special meeting on Wednesday, May 19th to meet the new officers of the Sacramento Police Dept. K-9 Team and to watch one of their weekly training sessions. Since 2007, East Sacramento Rotary has been instrumental in both funding and sweet equity in the building of the foremost K-9 Training Facility on the west coast, shade structures for summer work and lighting so training can be conducted at all hours of the day. We are so proud of our officers (human and K-9) who dedicate their lives for our safety.

RI's World Peace Conference coming to CaliforniaRotary's World Peace Conference Coming to CaliforniaRotary International is hosting it's World Peace Conference in Ontario, CA over two days in January (Jan 15-16, 2016). Rudy Westervelt, Conference Convenor says, "The mission of the Rotary World Peace Conference 2016 is to bring together experts with solutions to major issues that are occuring in our personal lives, homes, schools, businesses and communities, not just in Southern California, but around the world. We are inviting leaders from health care, academia, government, public safety, religions, business, and communities to meet together to share the solutions presented by experts. The format will allow for action plans to be developed such that real and measureable actions can be undertaken when attendees return home." Local Boy Scouts of America Executive Visits Eas SacGolden Empire council, BsA's scout executive/ceo visits east sacChuck Brasfield from the Boy Scouts of America gave an update about the impact Scouting is having on our local communities. Hundreds of Scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout this past year along with the thousands of Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts who attended a week long summer camp last year and this summer. He shared some of the challenges they're facing including the need for a new summer camp location below the snowline, something they can use year round. Chuck shared some local statistics that reminds us all of the importance of Scouting and why we need more boys and young men in the program and adults to serve as leaders and role models. Sac Kings are Ready for a New Season & Looking Forward to the ArenaSacramento kings' Phil horn, shares the new philosophy of the kingsOur speaker, Phil Horn, was introduced by Past President Marsha Vacca. Phil has been with the Sacramento Kings franchise for six years. Phil shared the new philosophy of the kings. One, the Kings would have a world involvement. Two, have a community impact. Three, be technology oriented. He stated that since the new ownership took over, they have donated over three million dollars to the local community.
Next, Phil shared some photos of the construction of the new arena. Then he went on to talk about the new line up of basketball players for the new season including De Marcus Cousins and the new coach, George Karl. Phil stated that Coach Karl has been a head coach for over 25 years. In his career as coach, he has always had the team he was coaching be in the play offs in the first full year he coached the team.

Rotary's Passport Club is Looking for New MembersRotary's Passport Club is looking for new membersA form of eClub, the Rotary Passport Club is a civic organization of consisting of people who seek to make a difference in their community by providing volunteerism and financial resources to the 40 Rotary clubs throughout Rotary District 5180 Greater Sacramento. Unlike traditional Rotary Clubs that meet weekly, the Rotary Passport Club has only four "in-person" meetings per year, sponsors no service projects and performs no fundraising activities. Instead, members are encouraged to attend any of the meetings of any of the 40 Rotary clubs in the District on days and at times that are convenient for them. Members are also encouraged to support the service projects and fundraising activities of any Club in the District that they find appealing as their schedule permits. The primary objective of membership is making a difference by achieving desired outcomes on demand.

ESR SPONSORED K-9 FACILITY VISITSPENDING THE AFTERNOON WITH SACRAMENTO'S FINEST K-9sEast Sac Rotary took a field trip to visit the Sacramento Police K-9 training facility at McClellan Park. Our Rotary club has been very involved with Sac PD's K-9 team through our efforts of building projects at the training center and sponsoring the purchase of a dog for the city. We enjoyed our visit and look forward to taking on future projects with Sacramento's finest K-9s.

COMPUTER LAB AT ENCINA HIGH SCHOOLEAST SAC JOINS ARDEN ARCADE & POINT WEST ROTARY IN DEVELOPING COMPUTER LAB AT ENCINA HIGH SCHOOLThe Rotary Clubs of Arden Arcade, East Sacramento and Point West joined forces in a six-month project to donate more than $20,000 to develop a Technology Room at Encina Preparatory School. "When the community embraces a school, powerful things happen for the students and their learning," said San Juan Unified School District Board President Pam Costa. "We have seen that today with Rotary's gift to Encina. We truly appreciate their long-standing support for the students and staff at Encina, and the opportunity that Rotary is helping provide for our students."

SAN QUINTIN, MEXICO INTERNATIONAL TRIPEAST SACRAMENTO ROTARIANS SUPPORT FLYING SAMARITANS BY UPGRADING CLINIC IN SAN QUINTIN, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICOEast Sacramento Rotary sent eight able bodied individuals to the Flying Samaritans Medical and Dental Clinic in San Quintin, Mexico three hours south of Ensanada in Baja California. Our projects included building new cabinetry for the Medical Clinic so medicines could be stored without getting dirty and grimy. This task was taken on by master carpenters Lewie Donhost and Bob Deering (with a little help from Carroll Dudley).
