DG RAY HERBERT
DG Ray congratulated our Club on the Rotary difference we are making with our projects such as the Motor Show, Book Fair and Strathewan Beach Day and spoke about the importance of service though running various projects.
He impressed on us the focus this year on recording our volunteer hours on Club Central as RI President Ian Risely wants to be able to track the overall work that Rotarians around the world contribute. Hours spent on humanitarian projects is now more importance than attendance, which was the main measure for Rotary's success in the past.
When we all work on projects together we can make a much greater difference in the world. We will arrange to plant trees in Torquay to add to the total goal of more than 1.2 million trees to be planted by Earth Day on 22 April - one for every Rotarian.

It was great to have DG Ray on hand to be able to present Trevor Pickles with his President Elects badge for the coming year.

Deirdre has chosen "End Trachoma 2020" as her DG Partner's Program for this year. The program is being led by the Rotary Club of Melbourne but all clubs are asked to donate to the cause to end blindness in Indigenous children caused by trachoma. Soap Aid (recycling used soaps) will also contribute to this program so he was pleased that we will be participating.
He announced that Jazz and James Morrison will be key attractions at the District conference so we are encouraged to attend and show how the Rotary Club of Torquay is "Making a Difference".
