On a very windy Sunday between Lockdown 5 and Lockdown 6 in Victoria, the Rotary Clubs of Corio Bay and Geelong Central planted 100 trees at Beckley Park, Geelong, to commemorate 100 years of Rotary in Australia.
Friends and families helped out to plant lilly pillies, red bottlebrushes and banksia trees.

Seen here is Travis Beckley and his son, Max. Travis'  grandfather, Ray Beckley, whose name is bestowed on Beckley Park was a Member of Corio Bay Rotary.  Ray's son. Gary, is a current member of our Club.

We started the day with the holes in the ground.

The lilly pillies went in the row in the middle and the red bottlebrushes on both sides of the lilly pillies.

The trees, looked after by Gary Beckley, were positioned in the holes.

Our team of about 20 people began the planting.

The new soil was added to the holes along with plenty of water,
The tree was again watered after it was planted.

Three bamboo stakes were hammered in around each tree and a plastic tree guard was placed over the tree and stakes.

After the planting, the weed mat was laid - carefully making sure that the plants were standing upright.  The mulch was then placed on the weed mat.  Many wheelbarrows full of mulch were required.

When the planting , guards, weed mat and mulch were installed, it was time for lunch.

Dominos delivered many pizzas.
Our lunch was in the Men's Jockey room.  The pizzas were organised on the bench in the middle and the "workers" sat around the edge of the room.

Tea, coffee and water was available.

After lunch, we had a small ceremony to unveil the plaque and appreciate our work.

Although very windy, the sun shone and the rain stayed away.  It was a great, rewarding day.
