Many of our members will recall that in 2012 we awarded a $550 scholarship to a Lewisville High School student so that she could attend a special College summer school program at Stanford University. That student is Angela Umeh. Today, we learned the exciting news that she has been admitted to this fall's freshman class at Stanford University. See below, her memo to our club members.

Hello, this is Angela Umeh. About two years ago, the Lewisville Morning Rotary awarded me $550 to attend a summer program at Stanford. I wanted to update you on all that has happened since the last time I visited the Rotary last spring. I applied to Stanford, along with several other schools, through the QuestBridge program, an application that enables high-achieving low-income students to apply to prestigious institutions and receive substantial scholarships. Through the program, I have been admitted in to Stanford University with a $58,300 scholarship for the year. I just wanted to thank the rotary for all that they have done to get me to this point. It's amazing what a few caring people and $550 can get you. I am a member of Interact at my high school, and I hope to carry on the generosity, passion, and awareness I have gained through the club and rotary meetings with me to college next fall, potentially as a member of Rotaract if Stanford has a division (or I'll just start one up). I cannot thank you all enough and I wish you and all the rotary happy holidays.

We are Proud of you Angela. Good Luck at Stanford!
