The Denton County (Area 10) Belize Aquaponic Grow Bed Project Committee was hosted an Aquaponic Demonstration Project and Social at the First Baptist Church in The Colony on Friday, Sept. 15th.

Our club joined other Denton County Rotary Clubs in a Beta District Grant Project to build Aquaponic Grow beds in 10 villages located in Belize in January of 2018. Last Fridays visit was to see and actual grow bed demonstration set up by First Baptist Church members in The Colony.

Representing Lewisville Morning Rotary Club was Carolyn Wright, Diana McMillan, Marilyn Pokorny and John Pokorny who were joined by District 5790 Governor Elect Gerald Robinson, Cross Timbers Rotary Club member Will Carlton, Flower Mound Rotary Club member Lisa Maria Thompson, Denton Rotary Club President Jim Engelbrecht and others.

Thank you to the members of the First Baptist Church of the Colony for allowing us to spend some time learning about Aquaponic Grow Beds. Church members Carel Bekker and David Rhodes did an excellent job of describing the process and sharing their experience installing a grow bed in Belize two years ago.

For out next step, three of our Belize committee members, Gerald, Lisa-Marie, Will and Mike Sherwood are heading down to Belize Thursday where they will meet with local Rotary club members and visit the villages that are potential sites for this project.

Ar you interested in joining other District 5790 members in January of 2018 to be part of two teams that will be heading to Belize to build these grow beds and help the local village members how to use aquaponics to improve their lives? Please contact one of the committee members shown below.

Committee Members: Gerald Robinson (FMR), Mike Sherewood (FMR), Will Carlson (CTRC), John Kazer (LNR), John Pokorny (LMR), Herman Oosterwijk (DNR), Elvis Stephens (DMR), Lisa-Marie Thompson
