What is the Bluebonnet Society, and who does it help?  Who can join?

The "Bluebonnet Society" has just been formed by DG Sharron Miles to fund local and district matching grants that advance the status of women and girls in six areas of focus:
Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
Disease prevention and treatment
Water and sanitation
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Economic and community development.
The society is open to anyone in Rotary District 5790 but especially encouraging the women to join.  Society members will receive a special pin, and be recognized at the luncheon held on Saturday May 19, 2012 at the District Conference.  To be a member of the Bluebonnet Society you are asked to pledge or give at least $100, or more, and over a one to three-year period of time to our local District 5790 Foundation.
$45 out of every $50 of the contribution will be earmarked to fund local and
district matching grants.
