The St. Simons Island/San Juan Rotary Joint Virtual Meeting was hosted by the Georgia Club and was a rousing success as well as a great learning experience.
Leslie Mattingly, our contact, introduced President Beverly Trainor who opened the meeting.  After the invocation and a lovely, filmed rendition of America, the Beautiful, she turned the meeting
over to noted author and historian, Buddy Sullivan, who took us through the Columbus, Spanish and English settlements to the present history of the islands along the coast of Georgia.  (The Golden Isles).
Over the years, these islands have produced cotton, rice, pine trees for paper goods and construction and was once known as the oyster & shrimp capital of the world.  We will be looking forward to October 20 when our club will be the host for a return joint exchange visit to St. Simons Island Georgia Club.  Our thanks to Leslie, Beverly, and Buddy and all our stateside Rotarians who helped make this innovative meeting a success!
