Last week our two speakers were new Rotarians Tsega Thompson and Javon Morley.  Both speakers gave my job talks.

Tsega is one of the top cybersecurity professionals in the Bahamas and gave an overview of what her job entails and how she got started in the field.  Tsega likes reading and particularly likes fiction. On her job, she provides a strategy to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data and system resources within her organization's environment.  She is responsible for security awareness, governance risk and compliance, identity and access management, security monitoring, vulnerability management, data security & privacy, policy management and numerous other cybersecurity tasks.

Tsega makes sure that the users in her organization are informed of security risks and that they are trained regularly on what they should and should not do.  She believes that security awareness should be started from the time kids are in primary school as the risks are everywhere and does not discriminate by age.  She's passionate about what she does and suggests that other women interested in the field should show up and show out as there are so many aspects of the field that they can get involved with.  There are many resources available and some are free.  So person's who are starting out and want to learn can do so without hesitation.

Our next speaker was Javon Morley who is from Eleuthera and is an avid junkanooer with the Valley Boys junkanoo group.  He grew up around the construction industry as his grandfather and 4 out of his grandfather's 5 sons were involved in the industry.  In high school he was introduced to graphical communications and used his love for drawing and the construction industry to pursue a career in architecture.  Javon has been working in the field for 7 years and has worked for architectural firms in the USA and the Bahamas.  He is pursuing his licensed architect certification and will take the exam by mid 2023.

As an assistant architect he is responsible for helping the architect with all of his tasks.  He coordinates meetings with engineers, coordinates client intentions with the contractor and engineer, oversees the construction of projects he is working on, oversees schematic design, development and construction documents, and does various other tasks related to the successful completion of the project he is working on.  Some of his favorite projects that he has worked on were two hotels in South Florida, a 12 bedroom house in Lyford Cay and a 5 bedroom house in Port New Providence.  He loves what he does as it gives him the opportunity to work in a field that he has loved from his youth.
