Britt (Bert) Woodrum presented a fundraising project to our club centered around Shelter Box: Fourteeners.
Bert has been working with the Shelter Box program which looks at what the need is and tailors the boxes to the area being served. They can be filled with tents, tarps, tools, blankets, cooking equipment, and more. Current deployments include India, Philippines, Vanuatu, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania and other countries.

Awareness of issues in these areas may be down, but Shelter Box continues to provide aide. For over 20 years they have been providing disaster relief.

Wanting to do more, Bert became motived to increase awareness and fund raise for the program by conquering the mountain peaks around her and thus the Fourteeners project was born. The goal is to raise $1,400 per mountain, 58 mountains at 14,000 feet elevation, totaling $82,000. You can read about the full fundraising effort by Britt here: www.shelterboxusa.org/fourteeners

Our club agreed to take the Happy Time dollars from our September meetings and contribute them to the Fourteeners project. Good luck Bert, happy climbing!
