January 26, 2015 Meeting Bulletin
 
President Steve Volk opened the meeting at 12:15 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Sarah Rappaport led the audience in singing “The Star Spangled Banner”. Chuck Moss gave the invocation.  Steve Volk introduced and welcomed visitors.
 
Linda Hatfield sold luncheon tickets.  Mark Cooper sold raffle tickets.  Steve Wogaman greeted.  David Haugh took attendance.  Doug Koschik served as bulletin editor. 
 
President Steve showed photos of Rotary members at the January 19 Gleaners event.
George Stern talked about his participation in Rotary’s literacy project in Pontiac.
 
Chris McLogan gave a two-minute update about the real estate market.   
 
Steve Volk updated the club on the STEM project.  John Mucha re-capped the Gleaners event.  Steve Volk noted that the district conference is coming up on April 24-26 at the Motor City Casino.  Steve needs four sergeants at arms for the conference.  See Steve if you’re interested in helping out.  The next board meeting will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at BAC.  Charles Wickins announced that there will be a “new member reception” on Feb. 26 at Birmingham Wine.  The cost is $20 for existing members, but free to all new members. 
 
The January 25 issue of the Birmingham Eccentric ran a great article about Birmingham’s Rotarians helping out at Gleaners. 
 
Steve Volk led the club in singing “Smiles.”
 
Birthdays this week include John Mucha and Joe Bauman.
 
Mike Williams took home $12 by winning the 50-50 raffle.  The pot lived.
 
Charles Wickins acted as sheriff, telling quite a few jokes about deflated balls in the process.
 
Wendee introduced Fran, the Rotary exchange student from Denia, Spain.  He spoke about and showed pictures of his town, his family, his pets, and his friends.  He thanked Rotary for making his stay in the United States possible.
 
Sarah Rappaport spoke about the band Collision Six, in which she sings, and about her business franchise, The Tutoring Center.  She thanked the people who had mentored her and encouraged all of us give of our time, to help others, and to “play it forward.”
 
The meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
