2 Minute Update:
Dave Zimmer on the topic of Rotary Foundation:
Rotary Foundation differs from most charitable organizations.  For example, when we built a water well in Uganda, we partner with a local Rotary Club which makes sure the well is maintained.  92% of each dollar contributed goes to the charitable purpose.  Polio Plus is meeting its goal.  We are down to 3 countries (see below).  For 100 years Rotary “has been doing goodness”
Announcements & Upcoming events:
1. Birthdays- George Stern and Chuck Gosh
2. The Board has approved the membership applications of Kayla Foust and Greg Burry—Welcome Kayla and Greg!
3. Regan Gilshire reports that she passed out “Mark Your Calendar” slips with Rotary activities for the month and will be doing so each month.  Regan also passed out committee sign up sheets for the various committees, and members are urged to join one or more committees.
4. Hope Warming Center:  Bill Roy reported that our next date is August 12, 2015.  We are in need of someone to prepare the main course, or we could pitch in and buy the main course.  John Mucha suggested a “table challenge”.  We held a table challenge and netted $133.00, almost enough to take care of two months.  District Governor Kenry Dotson will be joining us to help serve next Wednesday.
5. Wendee Haugh presented the Club with a banner she received from a Club in the U.K. which she visited while on a recent business trip.

50/50 Raffle & Card Draw: Daily Pot won by Chris Winans.  Nobody drew the Ace of Spades—the pot lives.

Sheriff: Charles Wickins

Speaker Host: Jim Conley
Guest Speaker/Program: District Governor Henry Dotson
This years’ theme is “Be a Gift to the World”, and District Governor Henry challenged just to do just that.  He met with Board and Officers before the meeting and is confident that we will attain a Presidential Citation this year.
Membership in the district is approximately 1730.  The goal for this year is to reach 2000, which means 6 new members (net) per club.  We must remember diversity, and we need to dispel the myth that this is a “men’s club”.  To increase efficiency, clubs might be merged.  The Foundation District  giving goal is $200,000.
We will increase our efforts to improve literacy.  This year the District will roll out the George Hedgespeth Literacy Award.  Linda Eastman has been appointed District Literacy Committee chair.  Detroit Public Radio approached the district and wishes to partner in a program to increase literacy in the 0-5 yr. age group.  There will be a District Literacy Day.
This year the District has 16 inbound exchange students and only 7 outbound.  The goal this year is 20 outbound.
Nigeria has been polio free for one year.  It is expected that it will be declared polio free by WHO in September.  Pakistan and Afganistan still remain.  While there are still technically three countries that are not polio free, that number is set to decrease to two.
The District Event will be “A Rotary Day at the Zoo, September 27.  Cost will be $35.00, includes lunch and admission.  Deadline for application for District Grants is October 1.  “Polio Day” is October 24.  All clubs will be asked that week to have pizza for their meeting meal and donate the difference between the cost of the pizza and their regular meal.  There will be a Foundation Gala November 7.  On Super Bowl weekend there will be a Conference Kickoff Gala.  District Conference will be  May 13-15 in Chatham Ontario.  The International Convention will come to Atlanta in 2017.
Thank you District Governor Henry for visiting and sharing the District’s plans for the upcoming year.

Jim Conley led us in “Smiles”, and then adjourned the meeting at 1:07 p.m.
