It was unfortunate that our President Steve could not attend as he, together with Ted Waghorne and Bill Granger, were visiting the Rotary Club of Mitchell River (see details below). Natasha Facci joined us as our newest member, inducted at our previous meeting. We also had a number of guests, including Rob Anderson, Anthony Balocca, Colin Freckleton, Rose Stewart and Mal Shorts’ wife, Gillian.

MUNA

Natasha Facci and Anne Josefsberg have been organising the participation of two students from Emmaus College whom the Rotary Club of Canterbury will sponsor at the forthcoming MUNA event to be held at Swinburne.

This international youth program simulates the workings of the United Nations Assembly by having two senior students from a number of schools represent a particular UN country. The students debate on matters of world political and social concern. Youth Exchange students can also participate. The assembly is about building bridges of goodwill for world peace and understanding through a personal involvement in the acceptance of situations that reflect the opinion of ‘adopted’ countries which may be completely contrary to their own views. Students are challenged by the opportunities of extended research, debating and public speaking skills by addressing a wide range of contemporary and world-focussed issues. The program extends over a weekend and it is chaired and judged by Rotarians.

District 9800 MUNA will be held at Swinburne University in Hawthorn on April 27 and 28 and I would highly recommend dropping in for a short visit to experience this amazing event.

Kew Football Club

Kew Football Club is looking for team managers this coming April to August season. They have two men’s and one women’s teams looking for team mangers. The team manager role requires about a 3 hour game day attendance and can be shared and rotated between a couple of Rotarians. If this is of interest to you, or anyone you know, please speak to President Steve at the next meeting or ring him on 0420 204 211.
