This week the bike riders rode from the Middle Gorge Railway Station, on the recently constructed Mernda rail extension, to join the Rotary Lunch Group at the Hooking Asian Restaurant in Kew East. Initially the riders went along the Middle Gorge section of the Plenty River Parklands. Then after excellent coffee at the Degani Cafe of University Hill, the riders crossed over to the ride down the Darebin Creek Bike Path to Kew East.

The bike riders often come across dumped rubbish, abandoned cars and misplaced shopping trolleys. They use the Snap Send Solve app to notify the responsible entity of the  issue. The app is available for both iPhones and Android phones. You take a photo(s) of the problem item, then you classify the issue from the drop down menu (e.g. dumped rubbish), the app knows the location and who should receive the notification (e.g. the local council), and then you just press send. The message goes with the photo(s) and the GPS location. You get an emailed confirmation that the message has been sent. In the case of dumped rubbish, the local council will acknowledge the problem by email and will give you a reference number. On this particular ride there was a pile of dumped rubbish beside the Darebin Creek near La Trobe University. Obviously, the rubbish arrived loaded on a trailer and had been tied to a tree so that it all came off the trailer as the vehicle drove away.
