Meeting at Capstone, 20 Gable Place, off Granite Street, Barre, VT

Dan Hoxworth

Dan joined Capstone as its new Executive Director in late July of 2015. He brings to his new role over 30 years of experience leading nonprofits, building community and working to create opportunities for adults and children to achieve their dreams. His inspiration comes from his family history as a grandson of a sharecropper in the Bootheel of Missouri. Like so many participants in the organizations that Dan has led, his father with encouragement, support (the GI bill), and perseverance transformed his family’s economic destiny.

A natural innovator and entrepreneur, Dan has formed several nonprofits which more than 20 years later are going strong. He developed the first Special Business District in Missouri. One nonprofit he led received a Small Business Award for Excellence from the St. Paul (MN) Chamber of Commerce. He received the Spurgeon Award from the Boy Scouts for “outstanding role model for youth who has made significant strides in their careers and rendered exceptional community service.” Dan is most proud of the success in making a community’s dream come true in the building of the 93,000 square foot, $25 million Paul & Sheila Wellstone Center for Community Building in St. Paul, MN through a $27.5 million capital campaign.

Along with his passion for supporting people to reach for and achieve prosperity, Dan brings to Capstone a lifelong commitment to community building and engagement, partnership and collaborative ventures, and the ability to secure the resources to achieve them. He is a passionate advocate for economic justice and sustainability and has authored numerous op eds on these topics. Dan continues to be inspired by participants and their determination to create a better life for themselves and their children at Capstone.

Dan finds renewal in nature and mountains both of which are in abundance here in Vermont. Like Dan and his siblings, Dan’s two adult sons both have advanced degrees and live in St. Paul, MN and Oakland, CA. They are truly his pride and joy. Dan can be reached at dhoxworth@capstonevt.org.
