Sergeant Merv called the first meeting of this rotary year to order and now we can “connect to the world”

Merv invited PDG Alan to introduce our new President Christopher which was preceded by a brief bio.

Christopher then asked the members to be kind to him whilst he find his feet in his new role.

Gerry provides the international toast to Singapore.

Chris  welcomed back members Rachel, Ron, Anna and visitors Irish and Charmaine.

Chris’s plans for this year is to get more members involved in our activities and for anything new he wants to first gauge members support.

Bernie presented gifts to Les, Darryl and Ian who were not present at changeover.

Chris thanked Deb for organizing changeover and Trevor for being the MC. He again congratulated Bernie on a great year. The changeover guest speaker, Helen Smith presented an inspirational talk especially their farm at Palmwoods and he hopes the club can visit. And congrats to the Paul Harris Fellowship (PHF) Award recipients, our secretary Sue and
Amanda from Bendigo Bank. Also congrats to Charmaine for her PHF from her club.

Chris then reported on a range of subjects:

  • Memorial of a park bench for PDG Nevell McPhee Talking to council for a bench at Wickham Point (suggested by Ron at Changeover).
  • Attended the district changeover for Darryl Iseppi and IPDG Wendy now looking after district grants.
  • Photo competition awards on 18July at 4pm at North St community Centre. And a big thanks to Rachel for stepping in to cover for Chris. We now have over 60 attendees. We should break even in this our first year but has potential for future fund raising.
  • The Landsborough care garden opening on 12July at Beerwah. Contact ADG Wendy if you wish to attend.
  • A potential fund raiser for us is to partner with Charmaine to organize next year masquerade ball. A committee has been board approval consisting of Charmaine, Rachel, Les, Darryl, Mark and Irish.
  • Golf day is still pending but date has been set in March 2020 close to St Pat’s day.

After Chris advised that "I hear you", he then listed the new Board as:
  • Vice President Bernie
  • Treasurer Mark
  • Secretary Sue
  • Membership & Program Deb
  • PR Les
  • Youth Judy
  • Vocational Darryl
  • Welfare Pam
  • International Genta

Chris encouraged the club to have more community awareness and to display Rotary in Action.

Chris has suggested a rotary information night at Aura and if sufficient interest then consider establishing a satellite club. We have opportunity for 4 BBQ’s at Aura and we can use that to gauge new member interest.

Would like to introduce support for some new organizations, but this will be subject to fund raising. We need to be on lookout for more opportunities to fund raise.

Have more club forums to engage more members.

New project for japan peace arch at RSL, Deb is arranging meeting with RSL

The All Abilities Park: council is  supportive and can provide $20k for design and installation. In contact with equipment supplier for a spend up to $33k. Trying to engage with Currimundi Special School.

Chris has a good new story from rotary segment. And today it is on Shelter Box. Rotary has just agreed to a new 3 year partnership for 1st response disaster relief. Shelter Box has a global network in 17 affiliated countries. Suggestion to have a Shelter Box on display at an event like the lake cleanup.
