Day 1
Today we starting removing all the rubbish from the building. I guess you call this Day 1. The clean up will take a couple of days and we will then start drilling the concrete at the top of the walls. We need to run a timber skirt around the top of the exterior walls to enable us to fasten the roof trusses securely.

This is the latest update from the hardworking team on the building site at Waiyevo Hospital. For those not familiar with the setup, there is a core of workers who work on Rotary projects around the island. They are local Fijians employed by Geoff Amos.

Our club is hosting the Taveuni Quiz Night to assist Geoff Amos and his workers with their projects. The funds raised at our Quiz night will be targeted for the refurbishment of one of the burned out buildings at Waiveyo Hospital. This building will be refurbished and converted to a 5 bedroom unit for expectant mothers and family who would otherwise have to endure long bumpy roads travelling to the Island’s only hospital. The building will also be used for visiting doctors and surgeons supporting the Taveuni Eye Project and other health programs.

Waiyevo Hospital is a small wooden basic general hospital with a 32 beds and 5 wards. The hospital is run by a 2 doctor team with surgeons and other medical specialists visiting the hospital from time to time. For serious cases where advanced medical treatment is required, patients are airlifted to the nearest main hospital in the island of Fiji.

Let’s get behind the Taveuni team and support them either by purchasing a ticket or a table to ourTaveuni Trivia Night on 1 March 2018 at Glen Taylor School, West Tamaki Road. If you are not able to be with us, donations to the project can be made directly to Rotary Club of St Johns (bank account details are on the event flyer below).
