The meeting started on time despite President Hugh admitting that his alarm clock, (his dog), was late in waking him up!  The attendance was down with only 23 members and 7 guests present.  This was a pity as we heard from the year 12 students from Sacred Heart College and Glendowie College who St. Johns Rotary had sponsored to attend the D9920 RYPEN weekend last March.

Sacred Heart had 3 students attend, David, Heath and Tommy and from Glendowie two, Lewis and Kalib.  Each of the five students spoke, sharing with us highlights of their experience,  the challenges they faced and how they think the experience will impact on their lives going forward.  Each shared some very personal experiences and how difficult some of these were for them, including how difficult public speaking was for some of them, but despite their fears each and every one of them did very well sharing examples of their learnings, the friends they made and how already the takeaways from the weekend are positively impacting their day to day lives.

They each thanked St. Johns sincerely for the opportunity and we wished each of them very best wishes for what lies ahead.

The students were accompanied by a teacher from each school and we very much appreciate their support of the RYPEN Programme, and the additional work that they are required to undertake in the selection and registration process

P.S.
Following the meeting, Miles spoke to several of the speakers and learned of PP Ainie's continued involvement in District 9920 activity.  This is just one of the many activities that Ainie continues to be involved with despite her now living in Wellington.

Below is a copy of an email exchange following last weeks meeting between Miles and Ainie

Dear Ainie:
5 participants from both SHC & GC spoke glowingly how the camp was a huge success for each of them personally.
Well done for your commitment that weekend.

Cheers
Miles Cain

Thank you Miles! The Camp was run by the young RYLA awardees and Rotaractors.  Tim Wilcock (RC Papakura) and my roles are just to oversee and make sure it goes well.  The following picture is of the total attendees.

As always
