Email from Peter Ross
Hi All,
I have spoken to Mavis Crawley of Salvation Army at some length
The Manukau Foodbank require volunteers to assist with:
  • Packing food parcels for distribution
  • Delivering food parcels as “runners” and “drivers”
  • Delivery teams will go out in twos to make deliveries around South Auckland and be given Salvation Army flyers to display in their car, vests as well as the delivery run sheet.
  • Depending on the sizes of their cars this may take up to 2-3 trips each.
The Foodbank is inundated with requests for food parcels, but the workload to deliver is variable. The Volunteers are planned on a day by day basis for this work and some are not always available so at times there is a need for back up. Hence the variability in the requirement for assistance. Some of those volunteers that have been packing are in need of a rest so back up is also required here.
Can I suggest that we go out to all the younger Rotary associated persons (RYLA, Rotaract etc) who are interested in helping and suggest they make direct contact with Mavis Crawley who is coordinating volunteers on behalf of Salvation Army. Could we do that through our closed group network communications?
Those that wish to assist can advise Mavis of their preference as to which job they may undertake and the timing that works for them

I am not sure what level of personal protection equipment is supplied but for those making deliveries who need it. Todd Hanlon has advised his company may be able to assist.
RYLA 9920 will assist with petrol vouchers for anyone using their own cars for deliveries

Please advise me by email if you take up the opportunity to volunteer so I can keep some track of who is involved
Mavis can be contacted by phone  on 021 0812 4307 Or email mavis.crawley@salvationarmy.org.nz

I will endeavour to maintain a watching brief so please feel free to call me at any time.
When I am back in town and we are at level three I will plan to meet up with the Salvation Army people to explore our wider assistance further.
Regards Peter Ross
