Charles (Charlie) McPeak
25th February 1933 – 2nd April 2019

Charlie was brought up on a farm near Woodville in Southern Hawkes Bay. He attended Wellington Teachers College in 1952/53. His first Principal’s job was at a school north of Napier near Tutira. He then moved to a Maori School near Kaitaia, a  move to Te Rapa, Hamilton and then to Park Estate Road School here in Papakura as the foundation Principal.

Following that he then opened Conifer Road School before being seconded into the inspectorate. He later became a permanent inspector before Tomorrows Schools took over. The old inspectorate disappeared and after a short time in the Ministry he retired.
Grace and Charlie lived in Bellfield Road, then for some time on Redoubt Road before having a small life style block at Whitecliffes Drive, Waiau Pa where he ran cattle for his son John.

He stayed on there after Grace died but a few years ago as his health began to fade a little he moved into Somerset.

Rotary: Charlie joined in 1977/78 in Eric Jerkovich’s year. He was a Director several times and President in 1992/92, the year Graeme Viall joined. Some venture this year included the Great Barrier Trip, Duathalon, Painting rooms at Papakura Maternity Hospital and 2 International nights, a good Irish night and later an American night where the American Ambassador and her husband attended. The club received a citation for a balanced club achievement.

Charlie was a good friend to all, a quiet but organised leader and always exemplifies the 4 way test in Rotary:
  • Is it the Truth?
  • Is it fair to all concerned?
  • Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Well done Charlie and thanks for your contribution and involvement.
