1974 – 75 President Alan Herkt (Fertiliser Distribution)

1974 and Alan Herkt continued with Community projects. The Hingaia Bridge rest area was tidied and enhanced. Rowley Lees organised a magazine library at Rosehill College. $500 was donated to the Sea Scouts building fund to allow construction to start. The International scene was not forgotten. Further talking book machines were sent to Sri Lanka, cattle drench to Tonga and baled hay to Samoa and we hosted a German G.S.E.Team.

The Maine Road playground was upgraded by the erection of the Innes mountain and a tree hut and slide. This was located on the green area adjacent to the swimming pool and “Round-a-Bout” on Clevedon Road. Unfortunately this playground was removed by Council when the traffic became too intense for safe parking in the area.

The Club was saddened by the tragic death during The Christmas holidays of our Vice President Bruce Henderson who was held in high esteem both by the Club and the Community.

A Bicycle Competition organised by Bob Jolly and run by the rest of the committee and club members proved to be a great success. Thanks went to Mr Annabell of the Transport Department for the setting up of the course on the day. The first prize of a 5-speed cycle was well received by the winner if his grin was any indication on the day.

The electronic wheelchair which the club obtained for Peter Talbot is proving its worth and the report from Peter’s mother in the last few days was very encouraging. She reports “Peter is moving around all over the place”. The cost of the chair to the club was $820.00. This could not have been bought if it was not for our Ways and Means Committee and the support of the fellows in general.
