The recent visit by five members of the Papakura High School Police Academy along with DP Troy England were a pleasure to host and we received a presentation that was very entertaining and engaging, proving once again the high-quality product that the School is producing.
Hotaka Piri Kura — launch of the PHS Police Academy took place at the School on Wednesday March 20th commissioned by the Police Area Commander David Glossop who was sponsored by our Club on a GSE (Group Study Exchange) Tour many years ago further proof of the reach and benefit of Rotary.
This Academy is one of only three in the whole of the greater Auckland Area and the School is so fortunate to be chosen from all the applicants and one can only but imagine what influence the mighty Principal John Rohs had in this exciting development education stream and what a credit to the School.
It not only provides a fantastic opportunity for any students considering the Police Force as their career but also a wonderful additional pathway for their education and personal development.

The presentation to us from the five was quite diverse in regard to what reasons compelled them to make this career choice but the world is wide open to them in every respect as with the introduction of the new direction in Policing and the change in philosophy from a Catch and Lock them up approach to a very high emphasis on Prevention.
Interestingly they enjoyed the night so much that without exception they wanted to join Rotary so with that in mind we will steer them into the soon to be formed Interact Club to gain a little more contact with Rotary, they certainly will all become great police professionals and a credit to their School.
Well Done Papakura High. Thanks to Rodger Goldstone and Principal John.
