Tonight we were pleased to welcome a number of students from Howick College who had attended Rotary organised programmes MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) and RYPEN (Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment).
John Osborne introduced who attended MUNA. The purpose of the programme is to develop bridges of goodwill for the furtherance of world peace and understanding. This is done by simulating the working of the United Nations Assembly by having school teams of 2 or 3 students representing a particular UN country in debates on matters of world politics and social concern. They spoke of being able to debate and discuss the very topical subject of “Hate Speech”. The assembly provided an opportunity to express views in a very safe environment. Their delightful enthusiasm clearly showed how much they both achieved from the experience.

John then introduced Gurjot Bhullar who attended RYPEN .The purpose/mission of the programme is to encourage self-development, helping young people form their own values and moral standards and broaden their horizons culturally and socially and to help them become better citizens. Gurjot spoke of the marvellous opportunity presented to all the delegates to widen their leadership development skills.
