Te Ope Whakaora (the Māori branding for the Salvation Army) means 'the army that brings life'.

In line with this mission, Epsom Lodge provides a transitional accommodation service and hauora support to up 85 residents who, for one reason or another, find themselves without suitable housing.

We need your help! We have a vegetable garden at the side of our centre but we would like to move this closer to the kitchen. This would assist the kitchen staff in accessing the garden and encourage activity in our back yard from our residents.

What you'll be doing:

  • Dismantling the current raised garden surrounds, prepare (level) the new site for the gardens at the rear of the section and reassemble the garden surrounds (so bringing tools like crow bars, sledge hammers, shovels, hammers and nails, string lines and levels would all be useful).
  • Transfer existing soil to new location (so would appreciate anyone who can bring trailers, wheelbarrows and shovels).
  • Build three composting bins for a rotating compost (saws, hammers, nails, levels, and spades would be useful).
  • Frame and build cover for a 'bath and buckets' worm garden (saw, hammer, nails, hinges, screws, bath, buckets and spouting are all needed).

Lunch from the kitchens will be provided!
