GUEST SPEAKER :

President Linda and the Board of Directors reviewed their Goals for 2018-19. The three main categories of goals are: Strive to achieve the 18-19 Rotary Citation; work the Rotary Club's Strategic Plan (we are in year two of three); and to encourage a healthy Club in all aspects.

Here are just some of the Goal Highlights:

 

President Linda:

  • Raise awareness in our community of Rotary's work to Eradicate Polio and our “Countdown To Zero” (a priority of R I Pres Barry Rassin.

  • Increase participation by our member at District and International Events and committees

  • Focus on Community Outreach

  • Co-chairing Rotary Friendship Day in Oshawa and the grand Re-opening of the Kids Safety Village

  • Attract Rotaractors in joining Rotary (also a priority of R I Pres Barry)

  • Make the membership Experience ( the highest priority of R I Pres Barry) – ensure our members have fun and feel they are contributing to our community

 

PDG Ted Morrison – Rotary Foundation:

  • Meet our Goals of $100 per member contribution to the Annual Programs Fund

  • Increase awareness of Polio Eradication and our “Countdown to Zero”

  • Hold a successful World Polio Day Event

  • Speak to our club during Rotary Foundation Month

  • Meet the $20 goal per member for the End Polio Now Campaign

  • Meet the Every Rotarian Every Year target of 100%

  • Increase the number of Rotary Foundation Benefactors

  • Hold an Ethics breakfast

  • Add more Paul Harris Fellows

 

Lennis Trotter -Vice President 18-19 and President 19-20:

  • Successful Grand Re-opening of the Kids Safety Village – Sept 22, 2018

  • Ensure completion of the online booking system for the KSV

  • Promote KSV with school principles

  • Investigate bus subsidies for kids and schools that cant afford to get to the KSV

  • Ensure club MCs on track to get Rotary Citation with Presidential Distinction

  • Chair Strategic Plan ReviewCommittee

  • Chair the Ways and Means Committee for Fundraising Committee

  • Attend PETS 1 and 2, and the trip to R I Headquarters

  • Select VP

  • Create succession plan for following year's Board, Committees and presidential candidates

 

Devon Biddle – Treasurer

  • Review finances of Kids Safety Village with Ron Mortson

  • Keep Banking activities for the club up to date

  • Issue Annual Dues and pay R I and District

  • Financial report to Directors

  • Interim Financial reports to club member

  • Review Ways and means for Fundraising

 

Robbie Larocque – Secretary:

  • Co-chair reversed draw, dinner and silent auction committee

  • Liason with CLOCA re Purple Woods Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

  • Board meetings and minutes

 

Dave Andrews – Public Image:

  • Media engagement in all club service projects (such as KSV Grand Opening, World Polio Day,

  • Ensure KSV website gets up and running with DRPS and contribute to the content

  • Ensure Club website, Facebook page, Twitter Account and up to date (and post at least 4 times per month)

  • Post club projects on Rotary Showcase and Rotary Ideas.org

  • Use Rotary's brand guidelines, templates, People of Action campaign materials in everything we do

  • Get our club members to talk to the media about our Club and our projects

  • Connect with all media in Durham Region

  • Issue media releases and press releases for all major club events and projects

  • Chair Superbowl Raffle Committee, Sit on Reverse Draw Committee

  • Update Club Brochure and ensure distribution

 

Kris Sachdeva – International Service:

  • Provide support, and reports to the Global Grant application (school bus and washroom facilities for school in rural India)

  • Investigate another Shelterbox, Sri Lanka Orphange , Adopt A village-Laos, Operation Eyesight International

  • Investigate Sweat Equity projects where members can volunteer

  • Another Kids Against Hunger project

  • Participate in a Rotary Action group and get speakers (such as RAGAS)

  • Educate member of Rotary Foundation's 6 areas of focus

 

Sue MacKinnon – Membership (Presented by Chair Mike McLaren)

  • Assist with grand Re-opening of Kids Safety Village

  • Gain of Net One in membership by June 30, 2018, and strive for a net gain of 5 (a Drive for Five) and Work the Strategic Plan and strive for 44 total members by June 30, 2019

  • Maintain Membership Retention Level

  • Do a Classification Survey – get a mix of business and professional people in our Rotary Club

  • Initiate a leadership, personal or professional development program to enhance member skills

  • Promote the Rotary Leadership Institute

  • Work the membership Development Plan

  • Enhance the membership Experience for Club members

 

Janice Coupland – Club Administration (also Chair of Community Service)

  • Have at least 60% of club members dates of birth accurately entered into Rotary Club Central

  • Increase Club members participation in hands-on service projects ( such as KSV, Kids Against Hunger, Community Cleanups)

  • Ensure new Club member do the classification talks within the first 6 months of their membership

  • ensure at least two reclassification talks of current members this Rotary year

  • Chair Fashion Show Fundraiser

  • Enhance the Club membership Experience with theme dinner nights, BBQ's external events like BBQ/Picnic; Christmas party; Valentines and St Patricks Day parties

  • Review results of Club survey on external events

 

Sonya Thompson – Sergeant At Arms (also Chair of Youth Service Committee)

  • Assist with organizing the Kids Safety Village grand Re-opening

  • Revamp happy Bucks to increase participation

  • Enhance the Membership Experience during Sergeant's Time at weekly meetings (such as consolation prizes, trivia time)

  • Investigate holding a Youth Service Fundraiser, with the participation of the Rotaract Club

  • Set goals and priorities for Youth Service projects and activities

 

Kim Boatman – Community Service, Youth service, Vocational Service

  • Cosponsor Rotaract Club of Durham College-UOIT

  • Sponsor Youth Exchange student or a RYLA Student

  • Get the Four Way Test Plaque (or banner) up at the entrance to City Hall Council Chambers

  • Member participation at the annual City Clean up project

  • Support mary Street School project

  • Plan a Kids Against Hunger project

  • Encourage Youthand Rotaract at Pancake Breakfast, Oshawa Clean up

  • Encourage a Fundraising Project centred around a for Youth

  • Co-Chair reverse draw fundraiser

  • Continue Partners In Service projects; participation House Christmas Party

  • Investigate hearth Place capital project

  • Build on Rotary / Rotaract working together on projects

  • Follow up on 2018 Rotaract grads and encourage them to join Rotary

  • Work to re-establish an Interact Club

  • Conduct a community assessment survey (what does Oshawa have and what does Oshawa need)
