ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mike Billington brought greetings from his President Dominic Hiscock, of the Winchester Rotary Club in Winchester, UK ( club now in its 90th year). And It was a please for Mike to see all of his “old” Rotary friends again. Mike presented President Ted with a banner and Ted gave Mike one of our Rotary Club Banners. A great symbol of Rotary Friendship.

 

Pres Ted – Announced that Barry Rassin, of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International for 2018-19. He will be declared the president-elect on September 1, 2017 if no challenging candidates have been suggested. . Past Pres Lennis – Kids Safety Village expansion project contract signed this week. Construction starts late August and will finish in the spring of 2018.

Janice – “ down the stretch they come “ – Please pay on Tuesday,, if you have not yet done so, for the balance of your $48.08 admission for our WOODBINE – Saturday, August 26. We will meet on the 4th floor at 11:45 am. Buffet served from noon to 3 and races are 1 to 5 pm. Total cost is $48.08 includes tea and coffee and includes a $10 Voucher for the casino. We will car pool in lieu of renting a bus.

Past Pres Hilda – 29 people have signed up for the Picnic / BBQ at the Biddles' cottage on Aug 19 from 2 to 8 pm. And please let Hilda know what you intend to bring in the way of salad, dessert or munchies. BYOB, bathing suit, sun tan lotion, lawn chairs, towels, etc.

Past Pres HildaBe sure to volunteer to be greeter / bulletin editor and registration desk volunteer this year. The list went around to sign up.

Editor's Note: There are still a number of holes in the volunteer list to be greeter / bulletin editor and registration . We need everyone in the Club to volunteerr when asked. It makes it easier on those volunteers who carry the work load week in and week out . Please let Hilda know if you can help.

Past Pres Lennis – Your help is urgently requested. Please volunteer. The Kids Safety Village of Durham Region has access to a booth at Auto Fest Aug. 26/27 and need volunteers to host the booth.

We will need your help at all of the eventes at The Kids Safety Village: Halloween at the Kids Saftey Village is on Saturday October 28, and this year The Holiday Event will start Nov 17 and run through Nov 25. Lennis is asking for our help. If you are able to help the Kids Safety Village, our Signature Project, at any of these events, please see Lennis.

Past Pres Dave: Roger Anderson, Chair of the Regional Municipality of Durham is our keynote speaker on Aug 29. This is a great opportunity to Bring a Friend, Bring your Spouse, Bring a Prospective Member. We need to let the Golf Club know by Aug 22. Dave sent out the list and asked ; are you coming? Yes or No. If you are bringing guests : how many ? We know who is not coming. We need to know who is coming and how many. So far only 4 people have indicated they will be attend the meeting. We need the FINAL number next week. Please let Dave know as soon as possible.

Pres Ted – Bill Irwin is celebrating 50 years in Rotary and the Rotary Club of Whitby is honouring Bill at the Sept 19 meeting at 7:00 am. If you wish to attend, please let Presdient Shauna Moore or Pres Ted know as soon as possible,

Pres Ted – asked for a show of hands how many people were interested in September, in a Lawn Bowling evening followed by supper out at a restaurant. The numbers were very favourable. There are no Tuesday meetings left in September and many were still interested in a Monday or a Wednesday evening. Ted and Janice will coordinate a date in September. Details will follow.

Pres Ted – Led a discussion and asked our members if they would be willing to hold a joint meeting with the Oshawa Rotary Club and invites all Rotarians in District 7070 to a Rotary Friendship Day at Parkwood on Sept 25 from noon to 1:30 pm. Speaker: Samantha George, Curator of Parkwood. Lunch and optional tours of Parkwood. We would cancel our Sept 26 meeting at the Golf Club. Cost per person is $75. If you bring a guest, that person would be $60 . It is estimated that $15 of the $75 ticket would be donated to the Rotary Foundation and between the 2 clubs, you would recieves award points towards your next Paul Harris Fellow. This Day is reminissent of the District 707 Freindship Days hosted by the Oshawa Rotary Club in the 1950's and 60's when Colonel Sam was still alive and he hosted everyone at Parkwod. Ted and Dave were give notice of this day on the weekend so there was very little time to react. Our members decided to proceed and hold the joint meeting and host Rotary Friendship Day with the Oshawa Rotary Club on Sept 25 with the two clubs working together.

REMINDERS:

Linda – is collecting volunteer hours for all of our service projects this year, starting July 1 2017 and ending June 30, 2018 and they will be entered into the projects at on Rotary Club Central for all of us to see. Keep track of all of your hours and report them to Linda for each project (committee meetings, research, investigation, donations, etc) .

 

Ted - Priority #1 Membership Seminar... September 23rd, 2017

From District 7070 Membership Chair, Virginia O'Reilly: It is a new Rotary year and what a great way to kick it off - the next installment of our Membership Seminar!! Let's keep the momentum going! Hear about what is working for clubs in our district, new ideas and the impact these are having on membership. Discuss what your club is doing, how it is working and discover how to make it better. On Saturday September 23rd, we are invited , from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the next installment of our Membership Seminar at Centennial College Event Centre - 6th Floor, Progress Campus, 937 Progress Ave, Scarborough, ON. TedRotary Foundation Walk is set for Sept. 10 at Heydenshore Pavillion - Whitby from 8 am to 1 pm. Be sure to get a copy of the pledge form on-line at the www.rotary7070.org website and start collecting money and pledges from your friends, relatives and neighbours and business associates. And tax receipts will be available for donations of $20 or more. Kathy Beattie and her District 7070 Rotary Foundation Walk Committee will be here, at our Club, on Aug 15 to answer all questions.

Ted - Reminded us all that last week , we receievd our annual invoice to pay our Rotary dues for 2017-18. Our DUES ARE DUE. He also reminded us of the voluntary contributions on the bottom of the invoice to the Annual Programs Fund of The Rotary Foundation and the $20 contribution to the Rotary Foundation PolioPlus Campaign. Our Treasurer Devon Biddle will look after seeing that you receive your recognition points for your next Paul Harris Fellow Award and also your tax receipt for the two Rotary Foundation donations.

Dave – We are once again participating with the Rotary E Club of Southern Ontario in the successful Super Bowl Raffle. Raffle tickets to win a trip to the Super Bowl game – First Prize: 2 tickets to the Super Bowl in Minnesota (person's name on the ticket must be the person picking up the tickets) , + 4 nights hotel accommodation + $1,000 US; Second Prize: $1,000 US; Third Prize: $500 US . – Tickets will be available in a few weeks , thanks to Robbie.
