WORLD POLIO DAY IN DURHAM REGION: October 24 – DETAILS TO FOLLOW - Tentative details - 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm - joint meeting of Durham Region Rotary Clubs at the new Global Classroom in the new Centre for Collaborative Education at Durham College where we will celebrate World Polio Day with leaders from around the world. Cash bar and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Cost $25 per person (portion will be donated to The Rotary Foundation's Polio Eradictaion Initative and will credited to your next Paul Harris Fellow.) Spouses, guests and prospective members are invited. We will see the live Rotary International livestream event and then we will brodacast our event live to Rotary Clubs and to Universities and colleges worldwide. DISTRICT CONFERENCE – OCTOBER 25 – 27: REMINDER - VP Lennis Trotter – The cost for the District 7070 Conference on Oct 25-27 held in Muskoka on Lake Rosseau, is $299 until the extended date of March 17 which then jumped up to $349. Rates for the Marriot are $135/night. Did you register?

Hilda – great to be back. April is Organ Donor Month
Ted – spent 10 minutes telling us how happy he is to be back with Rotary friends. His friend survived a Stroke and his daughter a bad car accident causing her to rent a car to visit them in Florida.

Larry – Nephew now a famous musician
Dave Penney– heading off to Ecuador, Peru and Gallapolos Islands next week. Away 17 days.

ROTARY MOMENT :
Ted – Presented a hilarious adaptation of considering attending Rotary like a trip to the Doctor’s Office. Well done Ted. Perhaps all future Rotary Moments will be set in a jocular tone. Precedence has been set.
GUEST SPEAKER:
Introduced by Dave Andrews, Kyle Benham is currently the Director, Economic Development Services at the City of Oshawa. Kyle draws upon over 25 years of municipal and economic development experience with expertise in business development and retention, sector and strategic development, investment attraction and land development.
Before joining Oshawa in 2016, Kyle served as the Director of the Milton Innovation Centre, the Executive Director at the Burlington Economic Development Corporation and as the Director of Business Development and Retention with the City of Toronto’s Department of Economic Development. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Science in Planning degree from the University of Toronto. He is a member of the Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO), the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

G.M. is an unwelcome challenge but luckily we have a mature enough industry to deal with it
Suffer from a lack of marketable land
Kyle was flooded with questions from Rotarians afterwards who seemed to really enjoy and appreciate his illuminating presentation.
