Dr. Andrew Samis
Stroke Prevention and Treatment

Dr. Samis has a bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, and PhD in Biology from Queen’s
University, as well as an MD, General Surgery Fellowship, and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship
also from Queen’s. This was the result of thirty continuous years of university study and gives
Dr. Samis the dubious honour of being the student with the longest continuing attendance at
Queen’s in the 182-year history of the University.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College
of Surgeons, and the American College of Chest Physicians, and is an instructor for the
Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support courses.
He is currently an ICU Doctor, General Surgeon, and Lead Stroke Physician, as well as an
Investigating Coroner.
Dr. Samis also had a second career as a reserve soldier in the Canadian Army and served for 29
years as infantry officer retiring in 2011 at the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
