Program HIghlights

First up were Cal High Interact President, Natalie Lee, and Ji Won Kim who spoke about their Camp Royal experience.  They recently spent a week in the Trinity Alps, sponsored by our club.  They praised the work and leadership of the Camp Director, Lain Hensley, who taught them that it is OK to be vulnerable and to call on others for support.  Some of the other things taught them were:

 

1.         No FUMAGE Factor  --   which stands for fear of self-image;

2.         No more FEAR  --  meaning False Expectations Accepted as Real; and

3.         When faced with a “situation,” PBS, or Pause, Breathe and Smile!

 

The project they chose to do upon returning home is to prepare tote bags of essentials for homeless people in San Francisco’s Tenderloin.  They need $330.00 to purchase what’s needed and Colette passed a donation jar around.

These two fine young ladies were followed by Ariana Reynoso, who spoke about her experience at Camp Venture.  This too was a one week camp, held at the Cal State’s Maritime Academy in Vallejo.  They began with outdoor activities focused on teamwork and confidence building and then moved into a classroom setting  for five days of learning about business and business planning from staff and guest speakers.  They worked from 8:30 in the morning to 9:00 pm each day with the ultimate objective of developing a Business Plan for a commercial effort of their choosing.  Their business was the Matrix Café, a meeting place for teens and young adults.

 

The last day of the camp were spent at the pool and performing at a talent show.  Ariana was very happy with her experience, after having entered it with some misgivings.
