La Jolla Sunrise Rotary's sponsorship and participation in the Global 2014 Swimarathon raised $30,000 to help the world eradicated polio. This is La Jolla Sunrise Rotary's third year participating in the event.

In La Jolla, 49 swimmers covered the three courses in the 2014 Swimarathon. Worldwide, over 500 Rotary Clubs participated in this event. Event coordinators were La Jolla Sunrise Rotarian, Steve Cross, and Barbara Held. This is the third Swimarathon for the club. The Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation will match 2-to-1 funds raised for this campaign. Notably, that means that our club raised a total of $30,000 for polio.

In 2012, the Global Swimarathon was entered into the Guiness Book of World Records, and La Jolla Sunrise Rotary was the only club to sponsor an ocean event. We remain the only ocean dip to date.

Next year's event will be held Sunday, February 22, 2015. For more information about the 2014 Swimarathon that appeared in The La Jolla Light, please click;  http://www.lajollalight.com/2014/03/05/sunrise-rotary-hosts-world%E2%80%99s-only-ocean-swimarathon-at-la-jolla-shores-for-global-fight-against-polio/
