Rotarians at Work Day--South Bay Clean Up Project. This amazing volunteer project takes place from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24. The host clubs are Rotary Club of Chula Vista Sunrise and our Rotary Club of Chula Vista Eastlake. The project consists of a San Diego Bay cleanup at the J Street Marina, including limited opportunity for working on the water itself via kayaks. Environmental Sustainability is a new focus of Rotary.
Details: We will meet up at the J Street Marina at 8 am. Tina Matthias, the Chair of the City of Chula Vista Sustainability Commission, will provide the kayaks, tour guides, buckets, biodegradable bags, and trash grabbers. Unfortunately, since COVID licensing restrictions do not allow for Tina to run two shifts since all kayaks and equipment need to be sterilized thoroughly between groups. Rotarians who do not wish to kayak may stroll around the Marina to pick up trash. Please click here to access a Google doc sign up sheet that created for the event. If Rotarians have access to their own kayak or a kayak that they can borrow, then we can accommodate more participants.
Fellowship: Lunch afterwards with members of both clubs and event volunteers to assist a local business. (Need to identify a location--Third Avenue was suggested). Friends of Rotary, family members encouraged to participate.
Background: In addition to clean up events, South Bay Sustainable Communities provides neighborhood composting training, resources and support as well as sustainable living community education.
