It’s not every day a world record holder speaks at a club meeting, but Monday was that day.

Arvid Loewen was our latest guest speaker.  The 59 year old ultra-marathon cyclist holds the Guinness World Record for travelling from Vancouver to Halifax in a mere 13 days, 6 hours and 13 minutes on a bicycle.  ‘Grandpa Arvid’ told stories of time spent on his bike and what he calls his most important pursuit, helping orphaned and abandoned children.  Loewen, left a senior management role with a major company in 2006 to put his focus on children that have been forgotten by society.  Since then he has been working on raising support and awareness for Mully Children’s Family, a rescue mission in Kenya for abandoned street children.
