24 April Meeting
ROTARY MEETING – April 24, 2014
ATTENDANCE: Pat Bowslaugh, Margaret Crofton, Jeanne Gitzel, George Horton, Lois Horton, Dayle Hughson, Bill Kichak, Diane Squair.
GUESTS: David Ironstand, Tanya LaBuick (guest speaker), Dawn Milne (new member)
George chaired this meeting. We opened with O Canada and the Four Way Test blessing.
Pat introduced David Ironstand. He explained his position as Aboriginal Liaison Officer for the Brandon Urban Aboriginal People’s Council. Unfortunately for us, he had prior commitments, and was unable to stay for the meeting.
George thanked Pat for arranging for David to attend. He asked members to stay after Tanya’s presentation to discuss the Beer Tasting, Coat Check for Stuart McLean and Flower Deliveries for the Bloom Box.
Diane introduced Tanya to our members. Tanya gave a wonderful presentation on her career and how it evolved from high school to present. She has been involved in many Olympics, Summer and Winter Games, and Super Bowl Games as a Consultant and Promoter. Her information left out members breathless – she has done so many incredible things.
We had a question and answer period following this presentation, and Diane thanked Tanya for attending and speaking to us.
Tanya mentioned that if anyone was interested, there is a meeting on April 29 at 7 p.m. at the Provincial Building concerning the Campbell Family situation.
Dayle introduced Dawn to our members. She wants to join our club and was made welcome by all. Dayle will arrange to get her name tag.
George apologized to Jeanne for giving Dayle the credit for finding the coat check claim tickets – Jeanne was the person who had found these.
Jeanne will work at the Stuart McLean show at the Auditorium on May 4. Dawn volunteered to assist her. Several of our members have tickets for the show and will help before and after the presentation. We need to arrive at 6:00 p.m. to take coats.
George gave Dayle the floor to discuss the Ticket Sales. Bill Kichak turned in 6 tickets. He has left 10 at Murray Chev Olds, and 2 at Murray Chrysler. Jeanne turned in 6 tickets and kept 2. Lois has sold 4 tickets and gave 2 tickets to the Dock because they donated a substantial door prize – this is the same as last year. Lois and George have 10 tickets left and will keep them till next week as they will be attending the Noon meeting on Tuesday. We need to speak with Alf to find out how the Shilo tickets are selling. The ad in the Shilo Stag was increased and should have been published today. Dayle will speak with Kate and Randy from Rotaract, and will check at the Liquor Marts this week.
Dayle and Lois have been to the Wheat Kings and Montanas to get prizes and will finish up next week. Diane will go to Leons.
Dayle and Jeanne have put posters up in all hotels.
We will complete our organization at next week’s meeting.
Happy dollars were collected.
The meeting adjourned.
