November 28 Minutes
ROTARY MEETING –November 28, 2013
ATTENDANCE: Theodora Agoawike, Pat Bowslaugh, Margaret Crofton, Alf Hackenschmidt, Lois Horton, Dayle Hughson, Bill Kichak, Diane Squair
Dayle chaired this meeting.
We did not have the flags etc. for this meeting.
The Kettle schedule for November 30 needed to be reworked because Bill Kichak and Diane Squair were unable to work their time as they had a funeral to attend in Saskatchewan. Margaret advised that she thought there would only be room for one person to work at the liquor store, so it was decided that Alf would work from 2 to 4, Lois from 4 to 6, and Dayle from 6 to 8.
Samaritan House have shortages for toothbrushes, tooth paste, shampoo and conditioner. It was decided that we would use the money from the Happy Dollars for tonight's meeting, and Dayle and Lois would go to shop for these items. Pat has shampoo to donate from her home, and she will look after this.
Pat reported on the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (BNRC) annual general meeting.
Lois reported that she and George had taken the Foundation Training Webinar on November 27. The Club Memorandum of Understanding must be completed and returned to the District Secretary prior to December 31.
The idea of having a breakfast at Applebees was discussed. Dayle agreed to determine more information as to available dates.
We had considerable discussion about making our profile more noticed in the community, and perhaps having the Shelterbox on display at the Shoppers' Mall with the opportunity for people to donate to this cause right there. At the same time, we could advertise for members, ask for volunteers to help with our projects, etc. Lois is going to check at the Mall to see what dates are available.
It was felt that our members need to have more Rotary information, mentoring, and education. A pamphlet was also suggested, giving information on what we do in the community and the world.
Members expressed a desire to have our meetings follow our normal procedure: The flags should be present (Alf has agreed to shorten the poles to make this more feasible), O Canada and the Rotary Grace to be included. Monthly meeting schedules should include one meeting as a business meeting, two meetings with speakers, and an education meeting for the members.
George will be asked to provide Margaret, Pat and Alf with their sign-in information for Club Runner.
We have speakers for December 5 – Jim Ferguson – Nealin off – campus program, and Bernie Mullins on December 12 – the CHIRP program.
Meeting adjourned.
