Minutes of July 7 Meeting

Attending:  Lois, Walter, Bill Taylor, Theodora, Dayle, Pat, George, Meleishe (guest of Theo), Whitney (Skype).Kumeran (guest of Walter)

  • money from different places for Shelterbox were donate - $90. on behalf of the Brandon Sunser Club, and a thank you letter has been received.
  • eMail to be sent to  RYLA candidates that they have been selected by Lois - 5 of them .  3 to the Junior camp and 2 to senior camp.  Rotoract has paid for 2 campers $850.  George explained the benefits of RYLA to our guests.
  • Beer Tasting - MLLC advised us to apply for sponsorship for our project where they will get the vendors and beer (50% off) for the vendors.  Manitoba encourages Craft or local beer.   An application has been sent in, so now it is wait and see.
  • Fair Trade - A meeting at the Dock who expressed the most interest where nobody else attended.  Only 50 as they have limitations.   Follow up to this who expressed interest earlier.   Whitney confirmed that other restaurants did not reach out.  Also, pushing it back to October to get more local products.
  • Bills - Overdue accounts from the beer tasting  -Dayle has the names, and members who approached them initially to visit them as a reminder.
  • Lois to get in touch with Naseer so as to arrange an induction time.
  • Rotaract - a good volleyball tournament.  For next year, to make it a family event and to incorporate other games so all will have something to do.  Might push it back 1 month hoping for better weather.  July 17 will be a meeting to elect new officers, will to to BU for recruitment and would like a presence of Rotary.  The July 17 meeting will be at Starbucks. 
  • Lois distributed a summary of what Rotary is.  This will make explaining Rotary to outsiders easier.  Lois explained the biggest way to explain and expose Rotary is through out youths.  Rotary does this through the youth exchange.  Our student is going to Neelin High School.
  • Arabian Horse Show is August 11 to 20. Dayle is going to talk to volunteers at the Riverbank Discovery centre to help at this event.  Members are asked to go to restaurants to as for discount coupons, and menus to hand out to the fairgoers that arrive from all over the world.  Dayle read out the assignments of whom would go to what restaurants to get the menus and coupons.  The area near the Keystone is a good start, but other restaurants are needed.  Walter added some names and will approach those establishments.
  • Pat attended 5 school graduations on behalf of the Club and handed out our awards.
  • The Polio jar was passed around, and Theo collected “Happy Dollars” from our happy bunch.
  • There will be a meeting at Jeannie’s cottage at Clear Lake on 21 August.  Rather than a pot luck, catered food will be picked up on the way to her cottage.
