The Multi Service Club meeting is on March 1. Dayle spoke about this and suggested that we could manage a $200 donation to this event. A motion was made by Jeanne and seconded by Sheri that we make a $200 donation. The motion carried.
Lois spoke on a call she had received regarding the YMCA Strong Kids Program. Lois moved that we donate $100 to this program. Pat seconded the motion. This motion carried.
George called on Pat to introduce Mark Mercure.
Mark gave his background. He is manager of Pharma-medic Services – he services nursing homes in Brandon.
He discussed the Pharmacy Act which came into force last year on January 1 and the differences that are now available for Pharmacists:
- Give medicines by injection
- Write prescriptions for Over The Counter Medicines so that they can be covered by insurance plans
- Can prescribe some items such as Self-administered tests
- Other tests for medical levels
- Can change prescriptions if they discover an error in the dosage or there is a drug shortage
- Can refill a prescription that has run out
- Compounding medicines – different now
- Geriatric Pharmacy – Mark is one of 6 in the province in conjunction with a Nurse Practitioner that can write prescriptions.
Practical Suggestions:
- Develop a relationship with your pharmacist – get to know them
- Clean out your medicines
- Have a medication review – discuss with your pharmacist. You can have bigger printing on your container, different size pill.
- If you have any new health problem – it might be a drug that is causing it.
An increase in good Health encourages community connectedness.
An interesting Question and Answer session ensued.
George thanked Mark.
RYLA was discussed – Willow Harvey is a candidate for the Senior Camp.
Beer Tasting Update – George met with Jamie from the Dock and has contacts with small distributors to get more suggestions for beer.
Dayle gave a run-down on ads that we have so far.
George and Lois will be away for 2 or 3 weeks – Dayle will run the meetings and Sheri and Jacquie are looking after the minutes.
The Polio Plus jar was passed, and Jeanne collected Happy Dollars.
Meeting adjourned.
