ROTARY MINUTES – August 27, 2018
Attendance: Sheri Connery, Marquita Duncan, George Horton, Lois Horton, Dayle Hughson, Emmanuel Madu, Judy Seib, Whitney Seib, Bill Taylor, Cornell Wasonga
Guest: Melanie Heinrichs – Children’s Services Assistant – Shilo MRFC
Sheri chaired the meeting.
Our Guest Speaker, Melanie Heinrichs gave an informative and interesting presentation on the Shilo Miltary Resource Family Centre. Her speech is in this bulletin. After her presentation, there was a Question and Answer Session where we learned of the need for books – particularly the type we provide for the Wellness Fair. Our club has some left over from the June presentations to Kindergarten students in the school.
Motion: Moved by Lois and seconded by Bill that we donate 50 books to this program. The books will be for ages 3 to 5
Carried.
Other needs such as sports equipment and money donations would also be appreciated.
Melanie stated that we can find more information at www.cafconnection.ca
And her email is melanie.heinrichs@forces.gc.ca
Noon Club Book Sale:
George informed us that this is to take place on September 13, 14 and 15. They will be setting up on Wednesday September 12 from 9 – 2. Any help will be appreciated. Dayle, Lois and George will help set up. Contact Lois if you are able to help especially on Tuesday because they need to know numbers for lunch.
Ribfest:
Jacquie will take back organizing the Kidzone for next year
Bills were discussed. Whitney will get totals and give a report.
Farmery information was discussed by Sheri – she will get the $ amount by week’s end. If we get cans returned to Farmery – they pay 10 cents each – would be worth buying cups and saving the cans for return. Bartenders have to open the cans anyhow, so pouring shouldn’t be an issue.
The Beer Garden was also discussed – we need to approach the city as this should be a Community Event – we need to do this a few months before the Ribfest.
Security was discussed – identifying children and their guardians needs to looked after in a better way – there were difficulties with allowing people into the Beer Tent.
We need to have Co-Chairs for the event and Committees set up well in advance. The large site and site marking has to be looked at. Gus from Texas Rangers is willing to fly in to help set up the site for the best possible arrangements.
Bernie Chrisp from the Noon Club is willing to help with the Health Department Certification.
The Brandon Boxing Club and Judicon Club were so appreciated for all their volunteer time.
Motion:
Moved by Judy and seconded by Whitney that we donate $1500 to the Brandon Boxing Club and $500 to the Judicon Club for their help at the Ribfest.
