President's Message
Paul Seymour

Last Wednesday, 27th October 2021, we saw the presentation to Jett Milford-Ferguson of the new ski board at the Lutzy Awards, where we again confirmed that Surfer Sunrise Rotary will be continuing the annual presentation of boards into the future.

In relation to the Social Media promotion of our Wheelchair Trust and Mauna Health Centre websites: We have received the latest proposal from Chumani Brooks and her team from 180 Degrees Consulting and will be looking to formalise this agreement, moving forward after final discussion at the next board meeting.

Bookings for the Christmas Breakfast at Edgewater Restaurant on the Isle of Capri are now open (see separate article below. Ed). Charles Thomasson has negotiated a very special deal for us. Like last year, we'll have the entire area of the restaurant, looking out towards the water, to ourselves.

This year's Lutzy Award goes to Jett Milford-Ferguson
After two postponements, this morning we presented the coveted 'Lutzy Award' to Jett Milford - Ferguson. Congratulations! The award is in honour of Keith Lutz, who was not only a Charter Member of our club but also a highly respected leader of the Surfers Paradise SLSC. The exclusive surf ski is sponsored by our Rotary Club and is presented annually to a young person selected by the committee of the Surfers SLSC. The winner may not necessarily be the top surfing champion but is selected because he/she has demonstrated real leadership qualities. Often, the winner goes on to Rotary youth development programs. Go to our District 9640 website www.rotary9640.org and check it out - top right of menu on the home page.

Excellent Surfers Sunrise annual Golf Day
Last Monday, we conducted the annual Surfers Sunrise Golf Day. Superb day, excellent organisation by Charles Thomasson, Doug Lipp and Paul Smith. Hey, even the rain held off on our patch of paradise on the Gold Coast! Well done everyone. Check out the full photo album on our club's website www.rotarysurferssunrise.org - right side of home page. Graeme Isaacson was at the door, (not only checking people in but also very efficiently organising that the right people got the right meal). Ray Higgs (who, together with our former member Christ Thurtell, was instrumental in setting up the Lutzy Award several years ago) was Chairman and Andy Bell was Sergeant. We had apologies from Gerald East, Ian Mayberry and Brian Pearson.

President Paul Seymour welcomed all members and guests - as we presented the annual Lutzy Award, too many to list individually, but of course, we want to mention our special guests: Jett Milford-Ferguson, the winner of this year's Lutzy Award and his family, Jan Lutz, David Orchy and Shane O'Connor OAM (Surfers Paradise SLSC), Margaret Grummitt and Annie Dorian (Rotary Club of Parkwood).

President Paul welcomed our newest member, Paul O'Neill, to Surfers Sunrise (photo left). A member of Rotary since 2008, he has transferred from the Rotary Club of Parkwood. His classification is 'Health Administration'. Welcome to the club, Paul!

Following Paul's induction, the meeting was entirely dedicated to the presentation of the Lutzy Award - see separate report above.

Anyone knows a concreter "with heart"?
We would like to put down a concrete slab at our Project Shed and are looking for a concreting company "with heart" who will give us a very special price. This drawing outlines details - a high-resolution version and more specific details are of course available.  Please contact Larry Murray directly if you can refer someone.

An unconfirmed rumour has it that Doug Lipp always carries a spare pair of socks in his pocket when he goes to play golf. Why? Well, one never knows, he says. What?? ☺
