Friday saw our long awaited Italian Long Lunch. After many hiccups due to COVID, Johnny Bueti organised a really tremendous lunch. Also many thanks to Charles Thomasson and Ashleigh Symes for all their efforts.
We have just been advised that the project shed has now got insurance cover through Rotary at no cost to our club. Not directly related to this, but important: As many of our volunteers are in what is considered 'the vulnerable age group', it is now compulsory for anyone visiting the project shed to be vaccinated against COVID with at least one jab.
Preparation of wheelchair at the project shed is going well with the next consignment of at least 100 wheelchairs going to South Africa.
We have met at the club with Chumani Brooks and her team from 180 Degrees Consulting and in principle they are looking to assist with all our Facebook, Google and Instagram exposure, at no cost to Rotary. 180 Degrees will be coming back with an updated brief, but exciting times, as they are very much more in line with the current market.
This coming Wednesday, 27th October 2021, we'll finally be able to present the Lutzy Award! Who will it be?

Last Friday, we finally were able to stage the 'Long Italian Lunch' at Gemelli's restaurant at Broadbeach. And what an event! Chief organiser Johnny Bueti had them lined up for months (originally, it was meant to be a 'Christmas in July' theme, but the Queensland State Health Department put a stop to that...). Our major sponsors 'My Carte, Salerno Law, Trigonx and Johnny's company, GoTransit Media Group made it possible. In total, we had 120 bookings (the maximum the restaurant can accommodate). The slumming started at midday and went on into the late afternoon.
Our sincere thanks go to our valued sponsors, the dignitaries from the Italian community, the staff at Gemelli's restaurant and, of course, to Johnny Bueti and his organising team.

A large number of clubs participated in this PR exercise, riding the train from Varsity Lakes to Helensvale, then the tram via Southport to Broadbeach, and back again. Surfers Sunrise was represented by Rotaractors Matt Hayward and Kristen 'KJ' Jewson, Gerald East and Franz Huber. Next to KJ is the famous Karen Kolenko with her Polio Plus bear, who was fitted out with a specially tailored Polio Plus miniature T-Shirt and face mask...

This drawing outlines details - a high-resolution version and more specific details are of course available. Please contact Larry Murray directly if you can refer someone.

The trouble with eating Italian style food is that, 5 or 6 days later, you are hungry again.
The problem with people who have no vices is that generally, you can be pretty sure they’re going to have some pretty annoying virtues. Elizabeth Taylor

She: "So, what do you do for work?"
He: "I drill holes into sheet metal. Then I use metal pins to connect those sheets of metal."
